Florida Division of Emergency Management Recognized for 2021 Governor’s Hurricane Conference Awards
The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) Director Kevin Guthrie and Deputy Bureau Chief of Response Ian Guidicelli recently received awards at the 2021 Governor's Hurricane Conference, the largest, most attended hurricane conference in the nation.
"Florida remains a leader in emergency management because of dedicated state employees," said Governor DeSantis. “The Division has been at the forefront of multiple disaster responses within the last year and deserves the recognition for their tireless work. As we continue through the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane season, Floridians can be assured that we have the best emergency management team that is prepared to support their communities during a disaster.”

FDEM Director Guthrie was honored with the Bob Lay Emergency Management Award for his “outstanding leadership, professionalism and dedication to the Division and the State during a time of unprecedent challenges with COVID-19, while also managing the most active hurricane season on record.”
The Bob Lay Emergency Management Award recognizes an individual whose primary responsibilities are in emergency management or a city, county, regional, state or federal emergency management agency for outstanding progress and accomplishment in the field of hurricane preparedness, response, recovery, mitigation or research in the State of Florida. FDEM Deputy Bureau Chief of Response Ian Guidicelli was honored with the Rising Star Award for his “outstanding dedication, contributions and accomplishments in [his] burgeoning career of emergency management while working for Florida Division of Emergency Management.”
The Rising Star Award recognizes an individual whose primary responsibilities are in emergency management for outstanding or substantial contributions and accomplishments in the field of hurricane preparedness, response, recovery or mitigation in the State of Florida.
Both awards accepted nominations from the state, local and federal government level.
The Governor’s Hurricane Conference is the largest, most attended hurricane conference in the country. Since 1987, the conference connects emergency management professionals to share best practices and lessons learned from past disasters, while also providing professional development and training sessions.
