Gov. Scott: FEMA Approves Sheltering Assistance for Bay

Governor Rick Scott today highlighted the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) decision, following his request, to approve Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) for families in Bay County. TSA provides FEMA funded short-term lodging in hotels and motels for eligible disaster survivors who are unable to return home for an extended period due to disaster-related damages or inaccessibility of their communities. FEMA is currently notifying eligible families in Bay County of their sheltering options under TSA. Families in Bay County looking to confirm their TSA eligibility should call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). You can also visit www.DisasterAssistance.gov for more information on TSA and to find participating hotels and motels.

Governor Scott said, “Yesterday I surveyed damage in Bay County, as well as Calhoun and Liberty counties, with FEMA Administrator Brock Long so he could see firsthand the damage and total loss suffered by our Gulf Coast and Panhandle communities. So many families have lost everything and now, with FEMA approving Transitional Sheltering Assistance in Bay County, families will be able to begin to move into more comfortable sheltering accommodations and move forward in the recovery process.”

Governor Scott continues to be in constant contact with FEMA leadership including Administrator Brock Long and Region 4 Administrator Gracia Szczech. As damage assessments are completed, the Governor will continue to advocate for more FEMA programs and reimbursements to be activated in additional counties. Updates for Florida families will be provided as additional FEMA disaster assistance becomes available.
