MOSQUITO-BORNE DISEASES
There are various diseases (Malaria, Encephalitis, Dengue Fever, and Yellow Fever) that are transmitted by mosquitos. Living in Florida, we can never be mosquito-free, but we can be mosquito smart. There are simple actions that we can take to reduce our risk of infection from one of these mosquito-borne diseases.

BE MOSQUITO SMART
Prevent Mosquito-borne Diseases

Current activities include:

  • working with local mosquito control districts to provide the public with information on mosquito control operations in areas where Encephalitis is found;
  • responding to requests for mosquito control assistance in areas lacking mosquito control programs;
  • releasing public information regarding animal health issues and protective measures.

The lead agencies coordinating with local governments in their response to mosquito-borne diseases are the Department of Health (ESF 8) and Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (ESF 17).
