Regional Evacuation Studies Update

Under House Bill 7121, the Division of Emergency Management received funding to update all 11 regional evacuation studies. As part of the process, new coastal LiDAR data will be gathered under separate contract and provided to update coastal surge/flood modeling tools including SLOSH.
The SLOSH model processing will be conducted by the National Weather Service.

FDEM is currently under contract with the Regional Planning Councils to conduct these evacuation studies updates. The first phase of the project will include demographic and land use analysis, hazards and behavioral analysis, shelter analysis and finally an evaluation of the transportation networks in each region, which will lead into the initiation and completion of vulnerability and transportation analysis components scheduled for later in the project cycle.

Regional Evacuation Studies

The purpose of a regional evacuation study is to provide emergency management officials with realistic data by quantifying the major factors in hurricane evacuation decision making. These data are provided as a framework of information that counties can use to update and revise their hurricane evacuation plans and operational procedures to improve their response to future hurricane threats.
