Director's Office - Military Liaison
Major Tad Warfel was appointed as the Florida National Guard Liaison Officer on 1 January 2002. As the Military Liaison between the Florida National Guard and the Florida Department of Emergency Management Major Tad Warfel primarily serves as the Director's subject matter expert on military affairs. He is responsible for coordinating Florida National Guard military functions that involve the Florida Division of Emergency Management and other agencies throughout the state. Major Warfel serves as an advisor to the Joint Directorate of Military Support. He oversees and directs the operation of Emergency Support Function Thirteen on a daily basis and during times of activation for the State Emergency Operations Center. Major Warfel performs coordination with various state agencies for the planning and accomplishment of long and short-term operations with the Florida National Guard as it pertains to Defense Support to Civil Authorities.
Major Warfel represents the FLNG and FDEM to Northern Command and other combatant commands and major United States Service Commands within the Department of Defense, for CONUS exercises, training plans, development of Homeland Defense Doctrine, Joint Operations requiremants and other duties as required.
In 1984 Major Warfel began his military career when he enlisted in the Army. He served on active duty from 1984 to 1988. He transferred to the Florida Army National Guard in 1989. Major Warfel has served in a variety of command and staff assignments including Detachment Commander, DET 1 C/3-124 Infantry, Commander A/3-124th Infantry, Aide de Camp, Florida State Area Command and Commander C/1-124th Infantry during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Major Warfel was mobilized in January 2003 and deployed to Iraq; he was assigned as the Commander of C/1-124th Infantry. While overseas, his company conducted operations in Western and Central Iraq with a base of operations in Ar Ramadi, Iraq.
Major Warfel is a graduate of the Airborne Course, the Air Assault Course, Ranger School and the Command and General Staff College. His military decorations include the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Infantryman’s badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Valorous Unit Award, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters and numerous other federal and state awards.
Major Warfel’s professional affiliations include the National Guard Association of the United States, The Association of the United States Army, and the National Guard Officers’ Association of Florida.
Major Warfel has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Florida State University and a Masters of Science in Management (Integrated Logistics) from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
